Where can you create Networking in Foreign Country ?
A lot of new migrants says
that build network in Foreign Country can't be done. But hold your horses mate,
is it true that you can't build network as a new migrant? Because I don't think
so.
Here are places that you
should go to start networking:
1) Holy place like mosque/church/temple - These
are the places that a lot of people will come to on a frequent basis and people
in these places are normally open for conversations. Hopefully some religious kind
people will help you. :)
2) University - Meets student from your country.
Youngsters are energetic and normally open to conversation and relationship
building.
3) Restaurant - everybody need foods, right?
Especially Malaysian. We love to go and hunt for Malaysian or halal food
anywhere we go.I made a few friends in Malaysian restaurant. Just throw away
your shyness and strike up conversation with anyone that you can. Don't worry,
you're not going to be chased away from the restaurant for trying to strike a
conversation, unless you're selling insurance or MLM haha
4) In a Bus or bus stop - I simply start a conversation with random
people I meet in the bus stop. Since we're trapped in a confined space (bus,
train or bus stop will prevent people from running away from you), hey...let's
just chat aye?.Hahaha.
5) Online community - We're
in digital era. So do not miss the digital train. Facebook, Instagram, forums
etc. Look for local online community there and join them. This is a great and
convenience way of networking. You can make tons of new friends even while
sitting on top of your toilet bowl!
An example--Facebook : Anak
Malaysia di New Zealand (admin, aku bagi iklan free nih)
6) Volunteer Activities - Give some of your time
and energy for a good course. Really? Nah.. who likes to do things for free
aite? Kiwi does! So, this is a valid way to build your network with local Kiwi.
Locals will see you in a good perspective if they knew you volunteer yourself
for your local communities.
7) Participate in activities
organized by your neighbourhood community centre
Most neigbourhood in NZ will
have a local community centre. These centre normally organize a lot of
activities for their community i.e movie in the parks, local arts exhibition,
etc. Join these, and introduce yourself. One of your neighbour might actually
be your future employer. Who knows?
8) Talk to your neighbour.
Introduce yourself to your neighbour - refer to explanation above.
9) Get involved in your
child's school activity (If you have any child)
Expose yourself with other
parents in your child's school. A school in NZ normally attracts a lot of
people contributing to it (parents, normally). Sometimes even a corporate body
may be involved in your child school as a contributor. Take these chance, raise
your hand, volunteer, and strike up conversations will all these people.
These are places I go to
Build Networking. Spread Love.
